Responsibilities

In this position, you will be responsible for working closely with a collaborative team on a variety of hydrogeology and water resources projects. Tasks and responsibilities include but may not be limited to:

  • Water Rights Adjudication Support: Support aspects of water rights adjudication services including but not limited to hydrographic surveys, water use analysis, and hydrologic investigations. Evaluate water rights permits, declarations, and licenses using historical imagery and documents.
  • State and Regional Water Resources Planning Support: Support aspects of state and regional water resources planning. Work closely with state and local entities (e.g., public water supply systems) to support thoughtful water resource management. Contribute to the writing of water plans and reports.
  • Hydrogeologic Characterization: Support hydrogeologic characterization. Oversee geophysical data acquisition. Perform routine monitoring events of groundwater and surface water. 
  • Data Management and Visualization: Collect, manage, interpret, and visualize large-scale datasets using Python, GIS, or other software tools.
  • GIS Support: Conduct spatial analyses and generate figures for internal interpretation and public-facing deliverables.
  • Technical Writing: Support reporting for project deliverables. Clearly communicate scientific information with colleagues and clients.
  • Field Documentation: Document field activities, ensure compliance with health and safety requirements for field work, and oversee work performed by subcontractors.

 

Required Qualifications

  • BS in, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, or Water Resources.
  • Skilled at technical communication of scientific and quantitative information.
  • Clear, well-rounded communication skills and the ability to maintain strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Foundational understanding of New Mexico water rights.
  • Foundational understanding of hydrogeology.
  • Proficiency with Excel.
  • Experience with data management, analysis, and figure production using desktop GIS software, preferably ArcGIS Pro.
  • Ability to collaborate across diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Desire to join or be actively involved in professional organizations.
  • Ability to support field tasks at various project site locations for up to 2 weeks at a time.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in Hydrology, Hydrogeology, or Water Resources.
  • 1 – 3 years of experience in hydrology / hydrogeology and/or water resources.
  • Proficient with New Mexico water rights.
  • Proficient with New Mexico hydrogeology.
  • Experience with web GIS software, such as ArcGIS Online, or other similar software.
  • Experience with Python for data management, analysis, and visualization.
  • Experience with electronic field data collection such as ArcGIS Field Maps, Survey123, or other similar software.
