Groundwater Modeler, Multiple Locations (AUS, ABQ, DEN) - 25-46-US06

INTERA Incorporated is looking for a Groundwater Modeler to join our Mining and Environmental Line of Business in the Austin, Texas, Albuquerque, New Mexico, or Denver, Colorado office. You will be working with a team of experts to solve technically complex hydrogeological problems. This work often includes evaluating impacts of aquifer depletion or contaminant migration, finding and developing a water source, or optimizing for groundwater quality remediation or water supply/wastewater management. At INTERA, we utilize numerical models, decision-support tools, and/or other quantitative applications to facilitate risk-informed decision making for a wide variety of clients, from municipalities to mining companies.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide support for general hydrogeologic analyses and groundwater modeling under the direction of INTERA’s senior hydrogeologists/modelers. This includes:

  • Compiling, synthesizing, and analyzing hydrogeological data
  • Supporting the development of groundwater models by creating inputs and post-processing and evaluating outputs from groundwater models
  • Performing numerical flow and transport modeling of the subsurface
  • Report preparation, and technical presentations to clients, regulators, and other interested parties.

  

Required Qualifications

  • BS or BA in Geology, Hydrogeology, Engineering, or a similar field with 2-4 years of applicable work experience
  • Solid foundational knowledge of physical hydrogeology
  • Experience compiling, manipulating, and analyzing datasets using programming languages (e.g., Python, R)
  • Experience with hydrogeological conceptual model development
  • Experience with numerical groundwater flow and transport model development
  • Proficiency with programming in Python
  • Experience with writing technical reports

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in Geology, Hydrogeology, Engineering, or a similar field with an emphasis on quantitative groundwater hydrology and/or groundwater modeling
  • Proficiency with data visualization using GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS)
  • Familiarity with MODFLOW suite and ability to pre-process, develop, and post-process models using FloPy.
  • Familiarity with model calibration and uncertainty analysis using PEST or PESTPP

 

Expected salary range:  $70,000 — $96,000 depending on degree and experience
