Entry-Level Geologist / Hydrogeologist / Environmental Scientist, Albuquerque, NM 24-32-ABQ03

Responsibilities

This is a hybrid position where the selected candidate can spend some time working from home, and some time working from the office, when not in the field.

  • Traveling up to 50% of the time for field-related activities that can last up to two consecutive weeks
  • Developing and implementing workplans for data collection
  • Overseeing drilling activities including logging soil borings
  • Performing groundwater monitoring events
  • Supporting and participating in environmental and mining site characterization investigations including soil gas investigations, monitoring well drilling and installation, soil and groundwater sampling, and hydraulic testing events
  • Collecting environmental samples and/or using field instruments to monitor environmental conditions (groundwater, stormwater, surface water, soil vapor, landfill gas, soil/sediment, and air)
  • Operation and maintenance of soil vapor and groundwater remediation and landfill gas destruction systems
  • Field documentation and reporting
  • Bore log and hydrogeologic cross-section development
  • Developing and updating site maps in ArcGIS
  • Documenting, managing, and analyzing environmental data to develop graphical summaries and reports using Excel, PowerPoint, and Word (or equivalent software)
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements for field work
  • Overseeing work performed by subcontractors to ensure work is completed in accordance with workplans, design drawings, specification, and/or client expectations
  • Interfacing with clients, regulatory personnel, and local stakeholders

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geosciences, hydrogeology, or a related field
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to ensure routine tasks are completed on schedule
  • Ability to provide thorough and accurate records of field activities through use of forms and daily logs
  • Clear communication skills for technical and non-technical topics through writing, presentations, and verbal methods
  • The ability to work both independently and in project teams  
  • Willing and able to safely drive and/or travel to various project sites for up to two consecutive weeks

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with environmental site assessments, environmental permit application preparation, or environmental compliance
  • Experience with environmental drilling, monitoring well design and installation, soil and groundwater sampling, and remedial construction oversight
  • Foundational knowledge of hydrogeology
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience maintaining and troubleshooting mechanical systems (pumps, field instruments, etc.)
  • Experience with data evaluation and technical report preparation
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training
