Ecological Risk Assessment Specialist, Richland, WA 2018-21-WA05

Job Description

The successful candidate will provide ecological risk assessment support to INTERA projects. A key responsibility of this position is to perform routine ecological risk assessment assignments in a manner consistent with USEPA and/or state regulatory requirements and associated guidance. Demonstrated experience with terrestrial evaluations is a must, with aquatic evaluations a plus, as well as familiarity with human health risk assessment guidance for shallow soil contamination.

The ideal candidate must be able to work under limited supervision and be able to participate in more complex assignments under closer supervision. Assignments include data reduction, compilation of dose-response data, exposure assessment, exposure point concentration evaluation, risk characterization, scientific management data point (SMDP), data analysis, and report preparation.

Other tasks include regulatory guidance and literature research with the critical evaluation and synthesis of regulatory guidance, compliance criteria for chemicals in potential exposure media (groundwater, surface water, soil, air, food), and scientific literature. Must be able to evaluate, select, and apply standard risk assessment techniques, procedures and criteria to perform technical assignments and QA/QC activities.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of applicable experience required, with a primary emphasis on ecological risk assessment
  • BS or MS in Ecotoxicology, Risk Assessment, Biology, Public Health or a related technical field (PhD preferred)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience with proUCL, RESRAD-BIOTA, or other similar tools
  • U.S. citizenship is required to fulfill government contract requirements
