Groundwater Modeler, Richland, WA 20-04-WA02

Job Description

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide support for groundwater and vadose zone modeling projects, and general hydrogeologic analysis under the direction of INTERA’s senior modelers/hydrogeologists. This includes the development and application of saturated flow and transport models, vadose zone flow and transport models, and multiphase models. The position will include using high-performance computing for simulation. The position requires knowledge of numerical methods, flow and transport modeling codes, interface tools, and other modeling tools. You should also have a solid understanding of hydrogeological principles and practices. Expertise with groundwater fate and transport models is not required but preferred. Other job duties will include working to quality assurance/quality control procedures for modeling, modeling report preparation, and technical presentations to clients, regulators, and other interested parties.

Required Qualifications

  • BS/BA in Engineering or Geology or closely related field that includes training in partial differential calculus and numerical solution methods
  • U.S. Citizenship due to project requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in Hydrogeology, Civil Engineering or a similar field with an emphasis in soil physics, groundwater hydrology and/or numerical modeling
  • 2-10 years of applicable experience with a primary emphasis on vadose zone and/or groundwater modeling
  • Hands-on experience developing, implementing, and documenting numerical flow and transport models
