Entry Level Human Health Risk Assessment Specialist, Richland, WA 19-28-WA10

Job Description

Your primary role will be to provide human health risk assessment support to a number of INTERA projects. Key responsibilities include performing human health risk assessments in a manner consistent with USEPA and state regulatory requirements and associated risk assessment guidance. Entry level experience with conducting quantitative human health risk assessment is required.

Our ideal candidate is an energetic self-starter and who can readily work under the direction of experienced senior professionals.  Assignments include data compilation, database development, data quality evaluations, statistical evaluations, scientific literature research and reviews, compilation of human health effects and exposure data, quantitative human health risk calculations, risk characterization documentation, and report writing.

Other tasks include synthesis of regulatory guidance, topical scientific literature, compliance criteria for radioisotopes and chemicals in potential exposure media (groundwater, surface water, soil, air, food), performing a variety of risk assessment related technical assignments and QA/QC activities.

Required Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Public or Environmental Health, Toxicology, Biology, or a closely related field
  • 2 - 4 years of applicable quantitative human health risk assessment experience with a primary emphasis on data analysis, exposure assessment, toxicity assessment and risk characterization (probabilistic risk assessment experience considered a plus)
  • Familiarity with Federal and State regulatory programs (such as, RCRA, CERCLA and MTCA)
  • Stellar written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with statistical and risk assessment software (e.g., R, ProUCL, RESRAD, or other similar tools) is desired
  • U.S. citizenship which is necessary to fulfill government contract requirements
